Winfield
First Baptist Church of Winfield, Alabama commissioned D.L. Simmons
& Company and Phoenix Organs North America to build and install
this new large organ. They chose the Phoenix Organ PT243swith
a 16-channel audio system designed to fill the new 1000-seat
sanctuary. The PT243S has
tab stop control in a dark Walnut side-jamb style console with deep
recessed panel sides. The speakers are housed in specifically
designed chambers on the third-floor level, high and on either side of
the baptistry. These substantially large chambers with hard
surfaces (concrete) allow for not only the space needed for all 80
speaker drivers, but for blending of the sounds as they are presented
to the room.
D.L. Simmons & Company conferred with the building
architect, Jim W. Nix, during the design phase of the new building to
provide optimal locations for speaker chambers, chamber construction,
and conduit needs which enhanced the success of this
installation. We are even told that our suggestions resulted in
building design changes that reduced the cost of the building due to
less steelwork! Including your organ builder in the design
process will always improve the outcome of any organ installation, and
should not be an after-thought.
The church's oganist has been enjoying having a few weeks to get to
know the new Phoenix Organ while details in completion of the new
auditorium are completed and all of the sophistcated audio and media
systems are tested. And as the Music Director, Timothy Lacey related to
us recently, "...the organ is awesome! Roberta [the organist] has spent some time
on it already, and she just smiles a lot lately..."
. Thanks go to Tim for being instrumental in the choice of a Phoenix Organ for this notable installation!
The first service with the new Phoenix Organ PT243s is Mother's Day
Sunday, and a dedication concert is being planned for sometime during
the summer of 2009.

The
weather was perfect until 30 minutes before the organ and speakers were
delivered, but we had a very good place to receive the pallets.
After a week of installing cables, speaker stands, speakers, and many
hours voicing the organ to the room, Joel helps finish up a few last
details.
The beautiful Walnut paneled Phoenix Console belnds perfectly with the new woodwork in the new building.
